Abrevity is a trade name of La Hucha Holding B.V., based in Strijen, Chamber of Commerce number 67865860. La Hucha Holding B.V. is responsible for processing personal data as described in this policy. Contact: support@abrevity.com.
What Abrevity does
Abrevity helps families record life stories: you have recorded conversations with a family member, and we turn them into text and help make a book from them. This means that, only on your instruction, we process special and personal content: voice recordings and life stories.
Which data we process
- Account data: name, email address, password (encrypted).
- Content you provide: audio/video recordings of conversations, transcripts, stories, photos, names and details of the people who appear in the stories (such as the interviewee).
- Payment data: handled by our payment provider Stripe; we do not see card or bank account numbers.
- Usage statistics: measured without cookies through Plausible (no tracking cookies, no advertising profiles, no data sent from your browser to advertising networks).
- Conversion measurement: when you sign up or make a purchase, we may send a server-side event to Google or Meta with an encrypted (hashed) version of your email address, only to measure our ads. There is no advertising pixel on our site.
The conversations you record
You decide what you record and upload. You are responsible for making sure the interviewee knows the conversation is being recorded and agrees to it. We treat those recordings as confidential content: they are processed only to make your story, never sold, never used for advertising, and not used to train AI models (we have also agreed this contractually with our processors).
What we use your data for (legal bases)
- Providing the service: transcribing, generating stories and questions, and making the book (performance of the agreement).
- Service emails about your project (performance of the agreement).
- Improving and securing the service (legitimate interest, at an aggregated level).
- Advertising conversion measurement with hashed data (legitimate interest; you can object at any time via support@abrevity.com).
Who helps us do this (processors)
We use a limited number of carefully selected processors, each with a data processing agreement, in these categories: hosting and storage (EU region), payment services, email sending, speech-to-text processing, AI text processing for questions and stories, cookieless website statistics, and, only to measure our ads, advertising platforms (server-side, with hashed data). For processors outside the EU, we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or standard contractual clauses. We will send you the full, current list of processors on request via support@abrevity.com.
Retention periods
We keep your stories, recordings, videos and books for as long as your account exists: it is your family archive, and the recordings are intended to remain with the book (for example so fragments can be watched and listened to from the book). We therefore never delete your content on our own initiative without contacting you first. If you delete something yourself, or delete your entire account, it will also be removed from our backups within 30 days. We keep invoicing data for 7 years (legal obligation).
Your rights
You can access, correct, delete, receive (data portability), and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Email support@abrevity.com; we respond within 30 days. Complaints can also be submitted to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
Security
Encrypted connections, encrypted storage with our EU hosting provider, restricted access to production data, and secrets kept outside source code. We report data breaches in accordance with the law.
